Naatyaachaaryas - Shanta and V.P.Dhananjayan - are a phenomena in the field of Bhartanaatyam. Deservedly, they have both been bestowed the prestigious Padma Bhushan for their outstanding contribution in this sphere. The unique couple, who complement each other perfectly, combine the highest standards as performing artistes with total dedication to teaching. Steeped in classicism and yet willing to explore the new without compromising on tradition, they have illumined the national and international scene of Bharatanaatyam for the past four decades. The Dhananjayans pursuit of perfection is uncompromising and they instill the highest values of our tradition and culture in succeeding generations of aspirants. Their commitment to the art has made them role models for the younger generation of artistes.

The numerous productions they have choreographed testify to their range and talent .The Padma Bhushan crowns a number of awards they have won over the years. The Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Fellowship of the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy and the Nrithya Choodamani of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha are a few of the earlier ones.
