In the sphere of Carnatic music, Padma Bhushan Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman is another name for Perfection and musical excellence. Extraordinarily intelligent, blessed with a photographic memory and combined with a finely attuned ear for all that is aesthetic in music, Lalgudi revolutionized the style of violin playing inventing a whole new technique — the prestigious Lalgudi Bani. His flawless and fascinating style, graceful and original, steeped in traditional roots gained him innumerable fans. He is a composer par excellence and has to his credit several 'kritis', 'tillanas' and 'varnams', which are a scintillating blend of raga, bhava, rhythm and lyrical beauty. He brought the most sought-after vocal style into the violin. A much sought after accompanist, brilliant soloist, composer, tunesmith, a great teacher — Lalgudi Jayaraman is all this and much more.

Music has always been this maestros passion, indeed his life's breath. Quoting him in his own words “I am nothing without music. Even in all my future births, I want to be born only as a musician. Music has not only been my livelihood but also my path to spirituality. If God granted me a wish, I would ask Him to make me twenty-five years younger. I want to delve deeper into the ocean of music.” Such is his passion and devotion to music.

Here is a magnificent concert of this living legend in a DVD format. He is accompanied by his son G.J.R.Krishnan and his daughter Vijayalakshmi on the violin, both being extremely talented and popular today in the music field. Vellore Sri Ramabhadran, a doyen among artists has accompanied on the mridangam and Sri Vikku Vinayakaram an artist of international fame has accompanied on the Ghatam.
